Dr. Chu the internationally famous scientist will be the main speaker in September at the seminar “Leading Implatology to the Top“. He is a guest of the company SOUTHERN IMPLANTS which knows how to choose and present the best whether it’s services, products, information.
Toothnews.gr contacted Dr. Chu and made an interesting interview to find out who you will meet on 22 September at the Niarchos Foundation where the seminar will take place.
Doctor, can tell us a little bit about yourself, your background, where you grew up and how you got involved in the field of dentistry?
I grew up in the suburbs of Manhattan [NYC]. Came from idle class home; father-civil engineer, mother-nurse.
Mother being in healthcare profession wanted us to explore that filed. I actually wanted to be a carpenter or builder [contractor] but dentistry is a perfect match for me, specially prosthodontics, where I can use my brain and hands to help patients.
You have given lectures nationally and internationally on the subjects of esthetic, restorative, and implant dentistry. Why you have choose Greece?
I have been to Greece in the past. Have a few students who graduated NYU esthetic program who are from Athens. I have made new friends and colleagues and conducting clinical research with Dr. Nicolopoulos’s group [Costa & Petros].
In your speech at the Southern Implants conference what will be the most important issue for your Greek colleagues to benefit?
Southern implants are designed to serve a “specific purpose, not preference.” Specific purposes to address the specific needs of our patients. That’s the difference in this company’s mission and philosophy which is quite rare these days of corporate dentistry/implantology. The lectures presented will identify the specific needs and treatment solutions offered by Southern Implants, Pty.
You are the creator of Chu’s Aesthetic Gauges and you maintains a private practice in fixed prosthodontics, esthetic, and implant dentistry in New York City. Tell us about ” your invention”.
The Chu’s Esthetic Gauges [Hu-Friedy] is about taking a critical known esthetic determinant, specifically, individual tooth proportion [tooth width relative to proportional length], and distilling these parameters into a visual ‘color by numbers’ instruments. It’s simple and easy to use once the clinician understands what the numbers mean and are. It’s use to diagnose and correct individual tooth size discrepancies.
A few words about “Color in Dentistry“:
Predictable shade matching in dentistry remains a significant challenge for clinicians in daily practice. Color is an important aspect in the esthetics of teeth and dental restoration fabrication, and color discrepancy can mar restorative results, even when other aspects (marginal fit, occlusion, and morphology) are adequate. This book provides step-by-step protocols to help dental professionals accurately match, communicate, and reproduce the color of teeth and gingiva. These authors demonstrate how to implement color science in simple problem-solving instructions for predictable esthetics in both clinical protocols and laboratory techniques. An extensive presentation of clinical cases is included to illustrate the use of recommended protocols in general practice. An outstanding contribution to the practice and theory of color management in contemporary dentistry.
Thank you for your time!
It was my pleasure.
